Second and third grades make up the Lower Elementary class. Students are evaluated at the beginning of each year to determine their level of competence. The lower elementary students master the usual math operations using Montessori materials and math operations booklets. Students move on as they master each mathematical operation.
In second grade students who have been working on their beautiful handwriting begin to learn cursive and before long are proudly writing all their work in cursive. Students also illustrate their stories to enhance them and become proficient in drawing.
Students focus on improving their reading proficiency, reading comprehension, spelling and vocabulary. They begin studying English grammar and composition writing. Students enjoy culture studies in science, history, geography, and Spanish language. Art, music, computer keyboarding and outdoor physical education make up the rest of their day.
